Mission Statement

826DC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.

With this in mind we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. All of our programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

Capitol Letters Happy Hour Fundraiser and Campaign Kickoff!

Where can you thumb-wrestle, deliver your best one-minute presidential acceptance speech AND help a fantastic writing center kick off its fall fundraising campaign? Capitol Letters Writing Center wants YOU to join us October 28th at The Big Hunt in Dupont Circle. Come early for drink specials and, from 7 p.m., 15-cent wings. We'll have prizes, contests, and information about the writing center. Invite your friends. Invite those thumbs you believe are weaker than yours. Invite everyone!

We'll tell you all you want to know about volunteering in our writing workshops and tutoring DC-area school children when we see you at The Big Hunt.

There will be a $20 donation request at the door.
